MSNBC The Ed Show – Granholm on Detroit: “There’s a huge opportunity”

Former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and AFSCME President Lee Saunders joined MSNBC’s The Ed Show on Thursday for a discussion on Detroit, it’s bankruptcy, cuts to retirement pensions, and opportunities for the future. Granholm says, “Detroit is not too big, its economy is too small.” She says that despite having 20 square miles of vacant land, there’s a huge opportunity in Detroit. “Use that to say urban pioneers, young people, entrepreneurs, come to Detroit.”

Granholm also thinks that the federal government can step up to help Detroit. “While lawmakers are discussing immigration reform, why not create a special visa for Detroit and say, “Want to start a business in America? Come to Detroit.”
